Spencers Get A New Gallery in Charleston, SC
One of the newest galleries in Charleston,
SC, the Spencer & Sumner Gallery, will change its name to
The Spencer Art Gallery effective Jan. 1, 2001. With the change
in name comes changes in the exhibiting artists.
The gallery is evolving to provide an exciting range of artistic
styles including abstraction, impressionism, contemporary realism,
traditional landscapes and seascapes and realism in oils, acrylics,
collages, mixed media, watercolors, pastels and colored pencil.
All the artists featured have won awards for their art and all
are still developing and growing in fascinating directions.
Billie Sumner, a well-known Charleston artist who has won many
awards, has decided to open her own gallery in Mount Pleasant,
SC. "We wish her well," says Jerry Spencer, co-owner
of the galley with his wife, Catherine Brandt-Spencer.
Jeannette Cooper Nicholson
Jeannette Cooper Nicholson will be joining the gallery in Jan. adding her beautiful floral paintings into the gallery's mix. Nicholson is an instinctive colorist whose large floral paintings using stunningly vibrant colors to achieve wonderful depth and texture in her images. She recently had a successful solo exhibit at Louise Gilbert Memorial Gallery at Mitchell College in Statesville, NC.
