Works by Jim Walton are Being Featured at Tryon, NC, Art Center

Tryon Painters and Sculptors in Tryon, NC, will host an exhibition for the Jim Walton watercolor exhibit at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Gallery One, on view Jan. 7 - 30.

Walton has studied under famed watercolor artists Brian Atyeo of Canada, Tony Couch of Georgia, and Frank Webb of Pennsylvania. He concentrates on landscapes and seascapes with subjects that are familiar or reminiscent of his past experience. In his travels he often stops by the side of the road to sketch landscapes, or to sketch or paint something he has he has passed by before.

Through contemporary techniques, his paintings characterize a fleeting past, a part of the heritage and culture that remains a vital part of life in these areas. He uses abstract shapes and textures found in the natural world as a basis for a strong design. Because of his sensitivity in the use of pigment water as a technical tool, his paintings are a combination of abstract patterns suggesting real objects. He would like the viewer to enjoy the experience, savor the images, and see the world for a while through his eyes. But he also wants viewers to make his paintings their own - see it as whatever they want it to be.

Walton is a member of several art groups, including the Trenholm Artist Guild and the South Carolina Watercolor Society and has exhibited widely. His painting Ocracoke Ferry was accepted by the South Carolina Watercolor Association and is currently on display at the Spartanburg, SC Museum.
