Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, Presents Work by Pernille Ægidius Dake

Pernille Ægidius Dake, winner of the 1999 Piccolo Spoleto Poster award, is showing new works at Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC from Jan. 4 - 30, 2002.

This series of, well!, toying with the law were inspired by walks in the streets of Charleston, particularly Broad Street, where many law offices frequently cleaned up and left discarded books on the street. In this show, Law Books, Pernille Dake revitalizes the law! The books no longer hold specific answers to disputes or uncertainties. Instead, they are a query of relations. The law books hinge life anew as they are combined with brilliant colors and found objects. Concern, seriousness, and humor play vital parts in these assemblages. If Dake is playing tricks on the law, it is only in the name of art! She is impressed with the laws and politics of this country, America is unique in being solely founded on laws.

At times the constant testing of the laws and checks and balances can seem like a run amok! The law book paintings reflect and counter that.
