The Art Institute of Charlotte Gallery in Charlotte, NC, to Feature Work by Doug Clarke
In Charlotte, NC, the Art Institute of Charlotte Gallery's next exhibit will be Illustrations by Doug Clarke. The exhibit runs January 3-31, 2003.
Clarke says about his work, "I've always found that we have a fascination with celebrities. I find myself drawn to those who are not so much in the limelight, but on the slightly beaten path. Usually, it's something interesting about them that's worthy of the need to paint them. My work is editorial based and has a pseudo comic book feel to it, of course this is a direct result of years spent reading comic books. I like the suggestion of a story behind the picture...."
Clarke lives and works in Virginia Beach, VA. He received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. When he is not illustrating, Clarke paints commissioned portraits and teaches at the Visual Arts Center in Portsmouth, VA.
