Furman University in Greenville, SC, Features Works by Yeonglan Kim
Family, Back Home, a collection of photographs by Korean artist Yeonglan Kim, will be on display in Furman University's Roe Art Gallery in Greenville, SC, from Jan 7 through Feb. 14, 2003.
According to Kim, the exhibit is a body of work from an ongoing series that "deals with my personal memoirs of and reconnecting with the place and people where I come from during my brief sojourns at home in Korea."
Kim is currently a visiting assistant professor of art at Southwest Missouri State University. A graduate of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea, she has a MA degree in art history from Indiana State University and a MFA in photography from the University of Texas at Austin. She has also been an assistant instructor of photography at St. Edward University in Austin, TX.
Kim has exhibited her work across the country, including the Nexus Gallery in New York, the Hunger Artist Gallery in Albuquerque, NM, and the George A. Spiva Center for the arts in Joplin, MO. She was the Category Winner in Portraiture for the GalleryPrint Awards 2001 and received the Juror's Choice Award at Photoworks 2000. She also won first prize in the Color Professional Category of Assignment Earth, Vision 2001 at the Santa Fe Center for Visual Arts.
