Karpeles Manuscript Museum in Charleston, SC, Presents Works by Laura Szweda
The Karpeles Manuscript Museum in Charleston, SC, will present an art exhibit from Jan. 2-31, 2003 entitled From Nature to Abstraction featuring new works by Laura Liberatore Szweda.
After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute of Art, Szweda earned her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Maryland. She has taught painting, drawing 2D design, and art history at college level for ten years and currently teaches drawing and painting at the Gibbes Museum Studio in Charleston.
In addition to private and corporate collections, Szweda's work is among those in the collection "An American Album" permanently installed in the library of the national Museum of Women in the arts, Washington, DC. Her mixed media work earned her First Place in the "2002 Piccolo Spoleto Annual Juried Art Exhibition" in Charleston. Her work has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibits in the Northeast and the Southeast.
Szweda says of her work, "I attempt to
resolve issues of abstraction and realism with improvisational
painting techniques. My paintings function on multiple levels,
revealing underlying concerns for the natural world."
