Artspace in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Theresa-Marie Rhyne, Jan-Ru Wan, and Anne Dunning
Artspace in Raleigh, NC, will present several exhibitions beginning in 2006 with: Digital Progressions - A Retrospective of Macintosh based Artwork, featuring works by Theresa-Marie Rhyne in the Artspace Lobby from Jan. 6 - 28; Mending Anticipation, featuring works by Jan-Ru Wan in Gallery 1, from Jan. 21 through Mar. 11; and The Animal House, featuring works by Anne Dunning in Upfront Gallery, from Jan. 6 - 28.
Theresa-Marie Rhyne
began working with Apple Computer's Lisa and Macintosh systems
as the machines were introduced in 1983 and 1984. Over this twenty-two
year period, her work has evolved from the use of computer-based
painting and collage techniques to the development of complete
computer generated and interactive scenes. This exhibit reflects
her progression in computer-generated artwork with maturing Apple
Macintosh computers, software, and supporting technology.
Rhyne is a graduate of Stanford University with a Bachelor of
Science, two Masters Degrees and the Degree of Engineer in Civil
Engineering. She has been a visiting artist in the Wake County
School System and has exhibited her work internationally for over
twenty-five years.
Jan-Ru Wan
Jan-Ru Wan's work is
influenced by her Taiwanese Taoist and Buddhist upbringing. Wan
believes her upbringing combined with her experiences within two
different cultures has helped her to recognize that there are
certain universal truths common to all people.
Wan views her art as a labor of love, involving the meditative
processes of weaving, stitching, printing, and the use of unusual
materials. Scale and detail are key aspects of her work. Many
of the works are suspended from the ceiling in an effort to create
a dynamic setting within which viewers may contemplate.
Wan was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She studied and worked as a Fashion
Designer before moving to the United States to attend The School
of Art Institute of Chicago. Wan threw herself into fiber art
and sculpture, earning a BFA in 1993, and a MFA in Textiles at
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1996.
Wan has exhibited her work internationally. Upcoming exhibitions
include the Fayetteville Museum of Art, Fayetteville, NC and Constance
Gallery, Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa. Wan is currently
an Assistant Professor at East Carolina University, Greenville,
NC.
Anne Dunning
There has never been
a time in Anne Dunning's life when she has been without a pet.
She notes that her pets "light up her life." Dunning
hopes her exhibition, The Animal House, is as enjoyable
for viewers as it has been for her to plan and create.
A native of Rocky Mount, NC, Dunning attended Flora MacDonald
College (now St. Andrews) in Laurinburg, NC. Although she majored
in Business Education, Dunning always had a strong desire to paint.
Her paintings have been juried into numerous shows and she is
a member of the Capital Art League and the Artspace Artists Association.
