Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Postcards by Mary Whyte
Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Postcards from Tortola: Watercolor Sketches by Mary Whyte, on view from Jan. 20 through Feb. 11, 2006.
In Jan, 2005, artist Mary Whyte and her husband Smith Coleman spent seven days aboard a catamaran exploring the British Vrigin Islands. Instead of taking a camera, Whyte took her portable watercolor paints, and returned with an artist's intimate view of seascapes and island vistas. Presented in Coleman's hand-gilded frames, these abbreviated journals in watercolor are true postcards from Tortola.
Whyte is a nationally acclaimed artist best known for her figurative watercolor paintings. She is the author of Watercolor for the Serious Beginner (Watson-Guptill 1996), Alfreda's World (Wyrick & Co. 2003), and the newly released book An Artist's Way of Seeing (Wyrick & Co. 2005).
