The Frame Shop and Gallery Art Café in Rock Hill, SC, Offers Works by Rick Austin
The Frame Shop and Gallery Art Café in Rock Hill, SC, will present an exhibit of oil and pastel landscapes entitled The Land's Silent Scapes by Fort Mill, SC, artist Rick Austin. The exhibit will run from Jan 2 - 31, 2006.
Austin was born in rural
upstate New York and spent much of his time exploring the woods
in the Adirondack mountains. He found beauty and peace in
those surroundings for over 30 years, and today he still communicates
those same qualities in his landscapes. His formal education
comes from the Art Institute of Boston where he took Illustration
and Fine Art as dual majors.
Austin ran his own graphic art business, painted and taught art
classes through the New York State Council of the Arts in New
York for years. He worked closely with the Frederic Remington
Art Museum in Ogdensburg, NY, The 1000 Island Antique Race Boat
Museum, creating their Collector Poster for the past 10 years,
and showed his artwork locally at several galleries. Austin
taught at Clarkson University as well as heading up the visual
arts in their Communications Department.
Presently, Austin is living in Fort Mill doing commercial and
home wall murals, graphic and web design and filling freelance
commissions for his oils, and pastels. Quoting Austin, "I
believe that each of us appreciates art based on our own
experiences and how it relates to our lives. I've heard many
people say 'I don't know good art from bad art, but I know what
I like.' I've come to the conclusion that there is no better definition."
