Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC, Features Works by Carl Moser
The Hickory Museum of
Art in Hickory, NC, is presenting the exhibition, The Best
of Carl Moser, A Photographic Journey: 1955-2005, in the Entrance
and Mezzanine Galleries. The exhibition will be on view through
Mar. 12, 2006.
Hickory native and World War II veteran Carl Moser is an 85 year
old husband, father and successfully retired brick and rock mason.
Moser discovered his passion for photography as he took pictures
to record family events. In 1954 he founded the Catawba Valley
Camera Club. He did not consider becoming a professional photographer
until 1983 when he won first place in the national Eastman Kodak
photographic contest. At age 62 he became a self-employed photographer.
Today his career spans fifty years and he is recognized for his
work in The Kodak Collection, The Smithsonian, National Geographic
and other publications.
Often referred to as
North Carolina's "photographic father," Moser's work
reveals the unmatched beauty of Nature, and man's intrinsic place
in it. His inspiring images from China's Great Wall to America's
rugged West and North Carolina's scenic mountains have been widely
exhibited in museums and collections in the United States and
abroad.
This project is supported by SunTrust, the Catawba County Council
for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council, with funding
from the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for
the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
