South Carolina Watercolor Society Presents 2006 Regional Gatherings
During the months of
January and February, the South Carolina Watercolor Society (SCWS)
will host its annual Regional Gatherings with programs at ten
locations throughout the state including Aiken, Anderson, Beaufort,
Columbia, Florence, Georgetown, Greenville, Hilton Head, Rock
Hill and Spartanburg. SCWS members, ALL interested artists (non-members),
art patrons, and the general public are invited to attend, free
of charge.
The SCWS Regional Gatherings not only provide an educational program
but also offer an opportunity for artists and art patrons to get
together on a local level, share expertise, network with fellow
artists, exchange ideas, get some artistic feedback ... and just
visit with some friends. Each program will open with a social
gathering and refreshments will be served.

Jan. 9, 2006, at 6:30pm - Anderson County Arts Center - Warehouse, 405 N. Main St., Anderson. For info call 864/224-8811. Co-sponsored by the Anderson Artist Guild. Program by Larry Mauldin of Spartanburg, who works in the SCAC Artist-in-Residence program. What kind of brushes (if any) do you paint with? Painting with a brush - paintings with airbrush... come explore techniques, layering color, black & white designs, and more.

Jan. 10, 2006, at 6:30pm - University of SC - Aiken, 471 University Pkwy., Art Studio Room # 141, Aiken. Program, "Become a Thinking Artist" by Anne Patterson. Being grounded in the elements and principles of design will enable you to push your work to become more vibrant and well composed.
Jan. 18, 2006, at 10am - St. Mary's Church, Fellowship Hall, corner of Broad and Highmarket St., Geogetown. Co-sponsored by the Georgetown County Watercolor Society. Critique & demonstration by Liz Smith-Cox, SCAC Verner Award winner. Artists should bring 1 - 2 paintings for a critique of their work. Then Liz will do a figurative quick sketch demo.

Start with watermedia and then explore new options and experiment with additions such as collage, handmade papers, original stamps, textures and more.

Feb. 9, 2006, at 6:30pm - Florence Museum, 558 Spruce St., Florence. Demonstration by Esther Melton of Blythewood, "Painting Still-Life," highlighting techniques for reflections involving metals and glass.
SCWS membership is open to all South Carolina residents or property owners. Dues are $25 annually. The SCWS 29th Annual Exhibition will open Apr. 29, 2006, at City Art in Columbia, SC, and the event will coincide with the Artista Vista gallery walk in the Vista area of Columbia. Slide or digital image entries for the juried exhibit are due by Feb. 12, 2006 and a prospectus is now available. Other programs include Printmaking Workshops in Beaufort, Columbia and Greenville from Jan. 31 - Feb. 8, 206 and a painting workshop, Experimental Watermedia, by Marilyn Hughey Phillis, Apr. 24 - 28, 2006, in Columbia. Registration is still open.
