Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Veronica Takacs
Veronica Takacs will be the featured artist at the Art League Gallery in Pineland Station on Hilton Head Island, SC, from Jan. 9 through Feb. 10, 2007. The title of her show, A Passion for Pastel, says it all.
Takacs' first art training started at the age of 16 in Paris, France where her family moved from her native city of Bucharest, Romania. After immigrating to the United States, she continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. During her studies, Takacs experimented with different media, such as oils, charcoal, sculpture, lithography, and at that time perfected her skills in oil painting.
Married to a Canadian and raising a family of three children in Montreal, Takacs worked for 20 years as Director of Marketing and Advertising for several retail firms. A few years ago she took early retirement to actively pursue her passion for the arts and started to work with dry pastels. Her latest works are pastels. In striving to perfect her skills, Takacs continues to study with well-known pastel artists in order to improve her techniques. In Hilton Head she is inspired by the two local favorites, Joyce and Don Nagel.
Takacs is presently on the Board of Directors of the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada. She has been the Vice-President on the Board of Directors of the Town of Mount-Royal Art Association, TRAM (Table Ronde sur l'Art de Mont-Royal) for the past three years. She is also a member of the Montreal Women's Art Association, and the Art League of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
An accomplished artist, Takacs has had many art exhibitions and awards in different venues and galleries in Montreal and surrounding areas, as well as in the United States. Her painting entitled Nature's Lace was purchased by a corporation of attorneys during the International Pastel Society exhibition in July 2005 in Montreal and has been published in the summer edition of the prestigious Quebec publication, MagazinArt.
The Art League of Hilton Head promotes and supports the visual arts through education, exhibitions and partnerships for the cultural enrichment of the community and its visitors. It maintains a permanent gallery in Pineland Station (suite 207) for the exhibition and sale of the artwork of its members; the gallery is volunteer-managed. In addition, the League runs week-long workshops at the Disney Studio at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina with internationally renowned instructors and art classes at the Academy on Cordillo Parkway.
