City of Charleston Features Works by Judith Paul at Historic Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC

The City Gallery at Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, The Handwriting on the Wall, featuring mixed media works by Isle of Palms, SC, artist, Judith Paul, on view from Jan. 10 - Feb. 5, 2007.

Paul has worked as a narrative artist in a variety of mediums over a period of thirty years. After studying mosaics in Ravenna, Italy in 1999, she turned her attention to sculptural mosaics. This led to a solo show in New York City in 2001, entitled True Confessions. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Paul's work from the Hunter Museum of American Arts three-woman show entitled, Sunday Dinner: An Archaeological Dig, is in the National Museum of Arts Archive. At this point in time, Paul is exploring large mixed media paintings on canvas, incorporating blown up images of antique postcards with subtle narrative images.

Paul offers the following comments on her work: "In today's world, filled with instant text messaging and e-mail, I fear something precious is being lost: the handwritten word. The familiar handwriting of a friend or loved one awakens emotions within us. When that person is gone, their thoughts and even their personalities live on through the handwriting that was distinctly their own. What will this generation leave behind that the next can hold in their hands to remember the past? Perhaps only the sound of fingers tapping on a keyboard, words soon to be erased and forgotten."
