Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Offers Works by MT McClanahan, Shaun Richards and Sandy Nelson
Fountainside Gallery at Lumina Station in Wilmington, NC, is exhibiting works by three painters through Feb. 28, 2007. The trio includes North Carolina artists MT McClanahan, Shaun Richards and Sandy Nelson.
MT McClanahan
MT McClanahan, an East Carolina University graduate with a BFA in painting lives in Grimesland, NC, where he is retiring from civil service to create full-time. His work is impressionistic with paint strokes dancing across the canvas, creating light and harmony regardless of the subject. Docks, boatyards, boats and beach landscapes dominate the inspirations he finds around him, but a single glass pitcher of wildflowers or the face of a child can also move him to the easel.
Shaun Richards
Shaun Richards, a young master of painting from Raleigh and UNC-Wilmington graduate, works in oil on large scale canvases, using deep sepia tones reminiscent of antique photos and daguerreotypes. Whether the subject is cotton fields or gracefully draped figures, the mood is mysterious and haunting and invites the viewer to finish the story ending. Richards has recently received an Artists in Residence Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and completed a series of paintings of the Wilmington area for the new branch of FNB bank on Military Cutoff.
Sandy Nelson
Kentucky native Sandy Nelson recently relocated to Wilmington after painting the Outer Banks for 6 years. She also is an impressionist whose works are alive with color and subtle values. The subjects range from commission portraits to glorious marshes to nudes. Nelson's works are in over 60 corporate and museum collections, including those of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and Walmart founder Sam Walton. Nelson is presently completing a portrait of the president of the Kentucky Bar Association which will grace the cover of Bar and Bench magazine.
