Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Robert Broderson
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, will present, A Retrospective of
Paintings by Robert Broderson (1920-1992), on view from
Jan. 5 through Feb. 13, 2007. Gallery C is proud to present many
works never before seen from the Estate of Robert Broderson and
other fine collections.
2006 will be remembered as a watershed year in
the rediscovery of Robert Broderson (1920-1992). This singular
artist was the recipient of two important retrospective exhibitions
this year, one produced by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission
and the other at the Greenville Museum of Art in Greenville, NC.
All those who participated were in agreement that the artist's
haunting, expressive talent is as relevant today as ever
and needs to be cherished as one of the most individual
visions ever to emerge from the state of North Carolina.
Broderson was a WWII veteran who attended Duke University on the
GI Bill in the 1950's and later taught art at Duke and
at North Carolina State University well into the following
decade. His works grace the collections of the Whitney Museum
of Art, the Smithsonian Institute, the North Carolina Museum of
Art and many others. Broderson was primarily a painter of figures
and his works both large and small examine love, loneliness,
relationships, family and, above all else, the human condition.
