Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, Offers Works by Kathy Gagnon

The Tryon Painters & Sculptors will present an exhibition, Welcome to My Garden, featuring watercolor floral paintings of Kathy Gagnon, on view from Jan. 5 - 30, 2007, at Gallery I of the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC.

Gagnon is a signature member of the Ohio Watercolor Society as well as a member of several regional art associations. She has most recently joined both the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and the Henderson County Art League.

Gagnon has been painting since the age of 14 and mostly self-taught in oils. Having maintained a career in banking, she continued her art passion with every available moment of her free time. She moved from Ohio to North Carolina in 2005 after retiring from banking.

Painting exclusively in oils for 30 years Gagnon stepped into watercolor and according to the artist, "it was love at first sight". Along with her studies at the Museum of Art in Springfield, OH, she has acquired her expertise attending numerous workshops available through the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC.

Gagnon has become a magnificent watercolorist and credits her previous instructors for much of her success. Her workshop instructors include Sue Archer, Judi Bette, Betty Carr, Cheng-Khee Chee, Linda Doll. Joe Fettingis, Pat Fortunato, Fred Graff, Fred Leach, Margaret Martin, Edward Minchin, Donna Noice, Beth Patterson, Arleta Pech, Christopher Shink, Suzanne Spann and Frank Webb.

Gagnon prefers realism and impressionism, stressing simplicity of subject matter and transparency of color. Her favorite subjects are close-ups of nature in its infinite variety. She enjoys depicting sunlight on her subjects , especially the drama of backlighting. The predominant mood of Gagnon's work is quiet and speaks of inner peace. The warmth and beauty that radiates from her work can help balance the cold of winter. The artist resides in Hendersonville and is represented by the North End Gallery and the Merrimon Gallery both located in Asheville, NC.
