Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, Features Works by Eric McRay, Leigh Ann Hallberg, Martina Moore and Student Show
Theatre Art Galleries (TAG) in High Point, NC, is presenting exhibitions by Eric McRay, Leigh Ann Hallberg, Martina Moore, as well as the 32nd Annual Student Show, on view from Jan 26 through Mar. 29, 2008.
Renowned for his wide range of visual style, Raleigh, NC, artist Eric McRay brings his incredible Contemporary Cool paintings to the Main Gallery. A native of Washington DC, McRay received his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. After moving to North Carolina, he garnered the attention of Southern Living Magazine and was named an "Artist to Watch" by the Raleigh News & Observer. His work has appeared extensively in solo and group shows and in private and corporate collections throughout the state.
Upstairs in the Hallway Gallery, Danbury, NC, based artist Martina Moore gives us Fantasy Characters. Describing her devotion to the unusual art of maskmaking, Moore says "I am always intrigued by ancient cultures, their traditions and ceremonies and their strong connection to nature...By creating a mask I can bond my passion for old cultures and nature together and create expressions of beauty in a way that can uplift and transform the human spirit."
In Gallery B, Leigh Ann Hallberg presents Dramas and Phantasms. Her stunning images rendered in graphite on mylar use biological forms and processes as a basis to challenge the viewer's perceptions. Hallberg, a Lecturer in Art professor at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC, says that, "Shifting the scale - enlarging the microscope - allows the viewer to recognize the patterns and creates a point of entry into vaguely familiar but ultimately unsettling spaces."
In the Kaleidoscope Youth Gallery, TAG is pleased to present Transformation Masks, the 32nd Annual Student Show. Inspired by Martina Moore's outreach workshops, the exhibit will feature unique works by middle and high school students. Moore will judge the show.
