Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Andrew Young

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce their first solo exhibition for Chicago-based collage artist Andrew Young. The exhibit will be on view through Dec. 23. Concurrent with this exhibition, Young will be showing at the Rowe Arts Center at UNC-Charlotte through Dec. 4.

Andrew Young's latest focus has been constructing hand painted collages. The collages are layer upon layer of hand-made papers dyed, folded, abraded and assembled by Young into compositions spanning time and place. "They are about how we look at nature, how we revere it," he said. "The imagery has been invented to underline our place in relation to the environment. The colors are Italianate - golden sienna, sepia. Venetian blue - and add to the ethereal essence of the work. Many of the images are non-specific and therefore able to take on an iconic presence. It's an attempt to return to something personal to something intimate and maybe to integrate a certain reflection on the nature of biology and history".
