Ann Long Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Otto Neumann
Ann Long Fine Art in Charleston, SC, is pleased to present the work of Otto Neumann, 20th century German Expressionist, from Nov. 17 through Dec. 31, 2001. Neumann (1895-1975) was a contemporary of Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne, and Miro. His work reflects the influence of his peers and of the modernist era. Almost undiscovered until recently, works by Neumann can now be found in numerous museum collections including the Modern Museum of Art, NY, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
This exhibition, including figurative monoprints from the 1940's, 50's, and 60's, has been made possible through the Rothschild family who is the sole heir of the Neumann estate. While the Rothschild family has contracted Ann Long Fine Art to sell the Neumann collection in SC and GA, they also have generously gifted the Gibbes Museum of Art, in Charleston, 30 or more of his works. With great excitement, it is our pleasure and honor to represent the work of Otto Neumann.
It is important that the American public, and particularly collectors of fine art, become aware of Neumann's work. In celebration of their new gift, the Gibbes Museum will host Dr, David Sokol, curator of the Neumann collection and art professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Sokol will speak on the life and art of Neumann on Nov. 17, at 6pm, at the Gibbes Museum of Art. The event is open to the public. Neumann's works of art will be on display and for sale at Ann Long Fine Art during business hours on Nov. 17, and immediately following Dr. Sokol's lecture, and throughout Dec.
