Gaye Sanders Fisher Gallery in Charleston, SC, Celebrates 4th Anniversary
The Gaye Sanders Fisher Gallery in Charleston,
SC, will be celebrating the fourth anniversary of their Charleston
location Nov. 10 through Dec. 10, with the presentation of An
Island and Its People, an exhibition of a moving collection
of work created after Fisher recently visited Daufuskie Island,
SC.
Best known for her loose fluid watercolors, Fisher has chosen
to use acrylic, oil and watercolor to interpret the simplicity
of life in a place that until recently has reared its people without
the automobile, telephone or electricity. It is a place where
nature has ruled the life of the people, animals and the tides.
Fisher says, "Our modern world is rapidly approaching this
idyllic piece of earth, so I wanted to capture the serenity and
charm that can only belong to such a place and keep it in my thoughts
forever." Always drawn to depict the life of our coastal
black people, in her latest works Fisher displays her ability
to tell their story in delicately rendered figurative drawings.
The viewer will sense the emotion and spirit of a culture that
is rapidly changing.
A native of Charlotte, NC, Gaye Fisher grew up with a love of music, nature, and architecture. Educated as a musician, she became an accomplished organist, teacher and interior designer. Fisher suppressed her desire to paint until she discovered the work of Alice Ravenel Huger Smith about whom she says, "These paintings of emotional depth and color brought me to my love of watercolor and to its freedom of expression." Fisher is now the owner of two galleries and her work has been included in private and corporate collections in the US, Canada and Europe.
