Smith-Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Jennifer Smith Rogers
Smith-Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, is
proud to present Nocturnes, an exhibition of paintings
by Jennifer Smith Rogers for the month of Nov. The exhibition
will open in conjunction with the Charleston Fine Art Dealer's
Association (CFADA) Third Charleston Fine Arts Annual weekend,
taking place Nov. 2-4.
Known for her variety of vibrant lowcountry works in oil, Roger's
latest series is the result of a concentrated effort to create
a dramatic nighttime aura in her work. Nocturnes brilliantly
captures the rich evening ambience of lowcountry cityscapes and
landscapes. "There is a definite transition from day to evening
that offers a completely new palette. This series has provided
me with the particular challenge of capturing an evening feeling,
yet retaining the vividness of the local color and light,"
said Jennifer Smith Rogers.

Although the pieces are nighttime scenes, light has played a significant role in this series. Whether the light is artificial from a street lamp or natural from the moon, a light source is evident in every piece. One will find a marvelous contrast between rich deep hues of blue against warm glowing oranges and luminous yellows. Light from a storefront window illuminates an entire street corner, and streetlights are reflected off the surfaces of shiny cars. The evening moonlight is reflected in the water of local creeks and rivers, which captures the sense of peace and mystery that comes with the dark of evening. Visit the gallery November 2-17 to view this intriguing body of new work.
