Vitrum Gallerie in Asheville, NC, Offers Collaborative Glass Exhibit of Works by Melby, Holt & Perry
The Vitrum Gallerie in the Biltmore Village area of Asheville, NC, is presenting a collaborative exhibition of glass featuring works by Rick Melby, Polly Holt and Carole Perry, entitled, The Autumn Palette of Glass, on view through Nov. 11, 2001.
Vitrum Gallerie is proud to announce a collection
of studio glass art by Rick Melby, Polly Holt and Carole Perry
that celebrates the colors of autumn. Exhibiting a variety of
styles and techniques, the assorted works of these three artists
highlight the bold palette of the fall season. Vitrum Gallerie
is located in a region visited by many for its vibrant, annual
changing of the leaves. This change identifies with the transforming
nature of glass and its ability to embody many forms.
The works of Melby are hand-blown vessels that are manipulated,
and cut, ground and polished to produce various surface textures.
Melby's collection also includes chain hangings that are decorated
with sandblasted and painted glass icons. Polly Holt uses found
and discarded objects, such as glass fragments and metal scraps,
to create new sculptural contexts. The Autumn Palette of Glass
features a series of "quilt" tapestries that Holt fashioned
out of bright chunks of glass and copper wire.
Carole Perry is known for her glass "linen" sculptures that emphasize color and give the illusion of soft fabric. Perry produces each glass textile with thousands of individual glass fibers that are layered, fused together and shaped into free-flowing basket forms.
