November Issue 2002
Carolina Galleries in Charleston, SC, Offers an Exhibition of Works by Charleston's Renaissance Artists
Carolina Galleries in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, The Golden Age, from Nov. 1 through Dec. 1, 2002.
The Golden Age
is an exhibition which focuses on the two Charleston Renaissance
periods. The first, from 1910 to 1950, yielded historically significant
paintings from a clan of local artists whose works hang in most
major American Museums. The second began in 1980 and put Charleston
back on the art collectors map. These "new" artists,
unique and significant in their own right, appear in the Gibbes
Museum of Art, Savannah College of Art and Design, and elsewhere.
Visit for a close-up look at the area's masterworks - past and
present. Carolina Galleries will feature works by Alfred Hutty,
Alice R. H. Smith, and Elizabeth O'Neill Verner along with recent
paintings by Craig Crawford, Stephen Chesley, Anna Onufer, and
Margaret Peery.
In association with this exhibit on Nov. 2, starting at 1pm, the gallery will offer a demonstration of painting fine portraits given by Michael Del Priore. A native South Carolinian, Del Priore is a national award winning artist and is currently in the front ranks of portrait painting in America. He studied at the National Academy with Everett Raymond Kintsler and at the New York Academy with Nelson Shanks. His work can be seen in Capitol buildings, supreme courts, universities, banks, board rooms, offices, & private homes. His over 600 commissions include President Ronald Reagan, Strom Thurmond, Carroll Campbell, Bill Gates, Hugh McColl, and many others.
