Cleveland County Arts Center in Shelby, NC, Features Works by Dawn Caldwell and Holiday Shopping
Cleveland County Arts Center in Shelby, NC, is presenting an exhibition of works by watercolorist and photographer, Dawn Fortenberry Caldwel, through Nov. 8, 2002. The Center will also host Art and Soul, from Nov. 22 through Dec. 31, 2002, for artful shopping for the upcoming hoidays.
Caldwell was born and raised in Casar, NC, amidst the splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1974, she graduated from Wingate University then she completed her education in 1996 at the University of South Carolina with a focus in studio art and photography.
Caldwell was selected as one of six artists
by the Richland and Lexington County Cultural Councils to have
one of her paintings placed on a billboard for 18 months. Other
recent achievements include, an award in the annual Trenholm Artist
Guild exhibition, and inclusion in exhibitions including: SC Watercolor
Society Member Exhibition, Florence Museum of Art exhibiton, and
the 2000, 2001, SC State Fair. Her most cherished honor came this
spring when her Low Country Boats was selected from more
than 615 entries from 22 states to hang at McKissick Museum in
the Southern Watercolor Society's Annual Exhibition.
Don't forget the 2nd Annual Carolina Pottery Festival takes
place Nov. 9, 10am-4pm, at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds in
Shelby. The festival features works by regional potters of the
Western Piedmont area.
Join in for a unique shopping experience as the Cleveland County Arts Council hosts the first "Champagne and Shopping, Nov. 22, 8-10am at the Arts Center. This kickoff to the 3rd Annual Art and Soul Holiday Arts Sale will feature a Champagne Breakfast including delicious homebaked goodies, juice, coffee, and raffle drawings for artwork. These early shoppers will be the first to purchase one of a kind handcrafted gifts during Art and Soul. Tickets cost $7.50 and can be purchased now by calling the Arts Council at 704/484-2787.
Art and Soul will then officially open to the public at 10am the morning of Nov. 22 and continues through Dec. 31. This is a great way to get your holiday shopping done right here in Cleveland County and help support our local artists, and the Cleveland County Arts Council.
The works of over 50 local artists will be displayed for immediate purchase in the gallery of the Arts Center. Artwork includes pottery, jewelry, basketry, paintings, and lots more.
