Cameo Fine Art in Columbia, SC, Offers Works by Al Beyers for Vista Lights

It's that time again for one of the most anticipated nights of the year in Columbia, SC, Vista Lights. This year, Cameo Fine Art will present its last exhibit of the year and one of its most dynamic exhibits to kick off the Vista Lights festivities. The exhibit, Filtered, by Aiken, SC, artist, Al Beyer, has been a long awaited exhibit not just by patrons or fans of this artist, but by the artist himself. The exhibit will open on Nov. 18, for Vista Lights, and continue through Dec. 3, 2004.

Beyer has brought a new element to his masterful works and is ready to unveil them for all to see. This exhibit is very evocative and powerful; with profound uses of colors reflecting a solo exhibit of Beyer's titled, Figure Works, displayed at Cameo several years past. That exhibit had paintings that Beyer deemed, "an optical phenomenon with an expressive force". This exhibit is a continuation of Figure Works, but this is not to say he hasn't taken some risks along the way in this series. These paintings filter from those of Figure Works, but have a photo/negative quality to them.

Beyer has taken steps to perfect and experiment with his craft to give his viewers another taste of his inner sanctum. Filtered consists of approximately 30 paintings on canvas and board and are in a variety of sizes. All of them portray an affinity for female figures painted predominately in primary colors with vibrant blues, rich reds and bright yellows. " The human form is a complex and challenging subject matter." The bold statement he makes in these paintings with just the colors alone will captivate you employing harsh color juxtapositions along with subtle gradations. They each have a filtered-like aura while still maintaining the precision and quality he is known for.

Beyer received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University, NYC, NY. He acquired his Masters of Fine Art from the University of Arizona. He is currently a professor at University of South Carolina-Aiken teaching painting and drawing. This is Beyer's fifth solo exhibit at Cameo and he has been in many juried and invitational shows over the course of his career.

This also marks Cameo Fine Art's 25th Anniversary celebrating innovative accomplishments in the Metro/Vista art industry.
