Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Anne von Kolnitz

The Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC, is featuring works by Anne von Kolnitz through Nov. 30, 2004.

After many years in the cold Northeast, remarriage brought von Kolnitz back to her Southern roots (her mother was from Charleston). She has spent the last three years uncovering the secrets of painting Lowcountry land and seascapes. "I can't stop marveling at the clouds, the marsh, the sand and sea. I've had to learn how to paint 'heat' and 'wet', 'lush' and 'heavy', von Kolnitz says. "Life here is life turned upside down for a girl from New Hampshire. I'm loving it, but can you imagine coming from years of sleet and snow, icicles and goose bumps to this paradise of nature?"

von Kolnitz paints in pastel because of its vibrancy of color and its range and subtlety of values. She finds pastel limitless in its power to render people, places, atmosphere, emotion, the instant or the ever of a painting.
