City Art in Columbia, SC, Celebrates the Holiday Season with Lights, Festivities, and Art
City
Art in Columbia, SC, celebrates the holiday season with lights,
festivities, and art. Join us for Vista Lights on Nov.
18, 2004, starting at 6pm. The Main Gallery will feature K. Wayne
Thornley's solo exhibit, Scratching the Surface, on view
through Dec. 23, 2004, live demonstrations of figurative sketches,
and a sneak preview of Trustus Theatre's The Rocky Horror Show.
The City Art fine art supply store will also be open to highlight
fine artists supplies and gifts.
Thornley explores layering and etching techniques in painting
as he reflects on his life's experiences. He etches primitive
lines, shapes, and symbols into layers of acrylic paint on canvas.
The subtle designs are simple and eloquent. The work ranges in
size and price to suit all levels of art collectors and will make
great gifts for the holiday season. The gallery also showcases
the work of 30 to 40 established and emerging artists. The evening
of Vista Lights is a great time to meet many of these artists
in person and to get to know the individuals behind the art.
City Art's fine artists supply store will be highlighting many
art-related gifts for holiday gift-giving such as painting and
drawing sets for artists of all levels. As art professionals,
the City Art staff can show shoppers interesting new products
and gifts for the artist. Artist easels will be on sale in the
gallery, and feature some of the finest easels made from hand-rubbed,
oil finished, solid oak. Easels, the perfect tool for the artist,
also can be used as a beautiful piece of furniture to display
art or to add the finishing accessory to a room.
Class registration will be open for winter art classes during
Vista Lights. With City Art's convenient downtown location
and evening class times, the classes are designed for the adult
artist. Art classes make great gifts. City Art also features fine
framing. Add the finishing touch to original art with the finest
in custom framing. Plan early!
Ray Paschal, sketch artist for the South Carolina Law Enforcement
Division, will be giving exciting demonstrations of figurative
sketches. He will be creating likenesses for City Art guests based
on oral descriptions.
Don't miss the Sneak Preview of Trustus Theatre's
The Rocky Horror Show. City Art co-owner and director of
The Rocky Horror Show Randy Hanna will share a taste of
this upcoming musical. The cast of The Rocky Horror Show
will be performing. The show will open Dec. 3 and run through
Jan. 29, 2005, at Trustus Theatre.
