Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Exhibit by Ringling Alumni
Fiore Custode
Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC's Historic SouthEnd District presents an exhibition of paintings by faculty members and alumni of Ringling School of Art and Design. The exhibition, Ringling Comes to Town, will be on view from Nov. 7 through Dec. 31, 2004.
Ringling faculty member, Fiore Custode, selected approximately fifty paintings from twenty-five alumni artists from North Carolina, South Carolina and portions of Florida.
Founded in 1931 by noted art collector, real
estate developer and circus impresario John Ringling, the School
was originally named "The School of Fine and Applied Art
of the John and Mable Ringling Art Museum," and began its
operation in Sarasota, FL. In 1979 a name change to "Ringling
School of Art and Design," occurred to more accurately reflect
the emphasis being placed on the various aspects of design. What
started out as a small, local institution has now grown in scale
and reputation to be considered one of the country's premier visual
arts colleges - cultivating the creative spirit in art and design
students from around the world.
More than 1,000 students from 42 states and 47 countries study
at Ringling whose campus is one of the nation's most technologically
advanced and includes 60 new and renovated buildings on 37 acres.
The following artists are included: Christine Blosser; Rebecca
Chandler; Joann Couch; Deborah Covington; John Crum; Susan Dawkins;
Sharyn Fogel; William Goodson; Mark Henry; Evalyn Boyd Hines;
Craig Houston; William Jameson; Richard Johnson; Phillip Jones;
John MacKah; Daniel Miyares; Mary Ellen Suitt; William Whiteside;
