Green Rice Designs & Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Reopens with Works by Joshua 2
Green Rice Designs & Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by conceptual expressionist Joshua 2. The series is entitled, Here and There, and includes some of Joshua 2's largest and smallest works to date. The exhibit marks the grand re-opening of the burgeoning NoDa gallery, now located in an expanded space. The exhibition will run from Nov. 4 - 29, 2004.
Here and There includes more than 25 pieces ranging from landscapes, depictions of fruit and fashion, and numerous conceptual paintings. These pieces highlight the tension between truth and perceived contrived truth, and the drive for beauty and the drive for survival; the mundane to the extraordinary.
A new resident of Charlotte, Joshua 2 brings
a unique and thorough approach to the arts as a poet, teacher,
actor and illustrator in addition to his work as a fine artist.
His conceptual works are powerful interpretations of history,
religion, and society that express subtle nuances of sexuality,
worship, loneliness, and questions of faith. Some works are confrontational
- by virtue of size, shape, or color, while others make their
tension manifest in a smaller, more cubist, and contained way.
They are all exemplary works of formal clarity.
Joshua 2 has been an artist for most of his life and has many
published works. He has also completed commissioned works for
non-profit and for-profit organizations, cities, festivals, and
private collectors, and has had shows in various cities throughout
the northeast region.
Green Rice Designs & Gallery was opened by Allison Hertzler
in the Summer of 2003 in a small 1930's building on a side street
of NoDa. Within a year and 50+ artists later wall space in the
800sq. ft. gallery became limited and the decision to grow was
made. The gallery is now reopened in a 5100 sq. ft., 100+ year
old building, in the heart of NoDa (36th Street at North Davidson
Street). As fate would have it the new building recently went
through façade renovation and was appropriately painted
green. Once again Green Rice Designs & Gallery is the host
to many of Charlotte's talented emerging artists.
