The Spencer Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present from Nov. 5 through Dec. 1, 2004, a special exhibit entitled Brommer's World II, recent paintings by Gerald Brommer based on his extensive travels.
"Gerald Brommer is an internationally famous master artist. He is an innovative watercolor and acrylic painter, collagist, teacher, author and juror who teaches art all over the world, concentrating on subjects such as design." says Catherine Brandt-Spencer of the Spencer Gallery. "He has exhibited in over 160 one-man shows and participated in over 200 competitive and invitational group shows. He has won numerous prizes and awards in national shows as well as being a member of and holding office in such art organizations as the National Watercolor Society (Life member and past President), National Arts Club, National Association of Painters in Acrylic, USA and England (Honorary President), Watercolor USA Honor Society, and many more. Brommer's work is in numerous prestigious public and private collections worldwide, most of which hold more than one piece of his work. He has written 18 books on art arid edited a 10 volume series on design"
"The Spencer Gallery is very pleased to present this exciting exhibit." says Jerry Spencer. "This show will concentrate on Brommer's paintings from Europe and the Lowcountry, most of which are painted on location. Gerald is an important artist whose biographical data is included in every major biographical Who's Who listing in the United States and England"
Brommer's style of contemporary realism evokes strong memories of people and places. Brommer says, "My approach to landscapes is not one of replication but of interpretation and spirit, a deeply felt sense of place and the unique visual elements that comprise the elusive spirit felt at each location. I use a variety of media such as watercolor, acrylic, collage, gouache, Oriental papers, canvas, and paper. This variety stimulates creative approaches to both subject matter and content, yielding the most appropriate way to interpret each subject and location"
