The Vista Area in Columbia, SC, Celebrates its Annual Vista Lights Celebration on November 18, 2004
For nearly two decades the businesses and arts
community of Columbia, SC's Conagree Vista have welcomed the holiday
season with an annual evening celebration of food, arts, entertainment
and shopping. The event is called Vista Lights and will
be held on Nov. 18, 2004, from 6-9:30pm. Many of the downtown
streets will be "pedestrian" only areas lit by over
1500 luminaries.
Carolina Ballet's "Nutcracker" sweets, the Bon-Bons
and their Mother Ginger, will be on hand to light the giant Christmas
tree. Entertainment includes the jump-ropers of Double Dutch Force
and live performances at Whit-Ash Furniture. Adulh Flour will
delight visitors with hot biscuits and Cloud Nine will feature
samplings from Capital Wine Distributors, Rothschild Farm and
Hubs Peanuts.
Most of the art galleries have very special openings planned.
Cameo Fine Art is hosting Filtered, a solo exhibition of
more than thirty paintings by Aiken based artist Al Beyer. Lewis
+ Clark will present the exhibits, Painting, by Stephen
Chesley and Black Box by John G. Wright, both of Columbia.
Their work will be complimented by West Cost Women, a series
by Portland, Oregon native Margie Lee as well as furniture and
lighting by Lewis + Clark. One Eared Cow Glass will conduct glass
demonstrations throughout the evening and display new work for
the holiday season. Paul D. Sloan Interiors invites everyone to
enjoy the oils of Betsy Haven, Jim Calk, and Tyler Blanton.
A sneak preview of spiritual art by Augusta, GA, artist Keith
Johnson can be experienced at Gallery 2. The artists of Vista
Studios are opening a group show in Gallery 80808 of exciting
new work including sculpture by Sharon Licata, Pat Gilmartin,
and Carol Barks; photography by Susan Hogue; fibers by Susan Lenz;
paintings by Mike Williams, Laura Spong, and Ethel Brody; and
box constructions by figurative artist Pat Callahan.
I. Pinckney Simons Gallery is kicking off the holidays with original
works by all their artists. The Gallery at Nonnah's is planning
an opportunity for visitors to "meet and greet" their
artists. City Art is opening a solo exhibition Scratching the
Surface for K. Wayne Thornley while also featuring drawing
likenesses by Roy Paschal. Paschal, sketch artist for the South
Carolina Law Enforcement Division, will be giving exciting demonstrations
of figurative sketches. He will be creating likenesses for City
Art guests based on oral descriptions. City Art will also offer
an exciting preview of Trustus' December production, The Rocky
Horror Show, along with a giant easel sale. Also, discover
art, hand blown glass, designer jewelry and more at Carol Saunders
Gallery - celebrating 20 years in the Vista!
New designs of Bench Made Furniture will be unveiled at M. Craig
Cabinetmakers in celebration of thirty-two years of practice.
Live music is also planned. Logan Raye Spa, Salon and Gallery
will be hosting a reception in honor of the winner of the Contemporaries
of the Columbia Museum of Art's first annual Young Artist of the
Year Award.
Vistors should plan to come early and stay late. Columbia, always an art destination, will be hopping on Nov. 18.
