Sixth Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale Takes Place in Asheville, NC, Nov. 20 & 21, 2004
The Sixth Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale will be held on Nov. 20 & 21, 2004, from 10am-5pm at the home of Susan Voorhees at 55 Woodward Avenue in Asheville, NC. A collection of paintings and artwork by Voorhees family members will be on exhibit and for sale at this unusual event.
Meet the family of artists known throughout North Carolina. The matriarch of the family, Mildred, has colorful, patterned watercolors which have been gaining recognition via awards and publication. She will also be displaying her rich oil still lifes and landscapes. Three of Mildred's six children will be showing their work at this event. Susan, an occupational therapist from Baltimore, MD, and Asheville works in oil and pastels. Jane, from Asheville, works in watercolor and pastel and is a member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society.
David, a professional potter since 1974, makes hand-painted porcelain pottery. David's wife, Molly Sharp Voorhees, fabricates contemporary jewelry using sterling silver and gold. David and Molly own Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, which represents the family's artwork.
Other family members whose work will be for sale are grandson, Trace Voorhees from Philadelphia with his digital images; granddaughter, Elizabeth Voorhees with her photographs of West Africa; cousin, Suzanne Pachter with her watercolors; daughter-in-law, Caren Goldman, with her book "Healing Words"; and extended family member Chad Alice Hagen from Asheville with her felt pieces and hats. Nationally-recognized artist,
Steven Aimone, of Asheville will be the guest artist at this event. He will be signing his new book published this year by Lark Books entitled DESIGN! A Lively Guide to Design Basics for Artists & Crafts People.
The Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale will be located at 55 Woodward Avenue which is one block off Merrimon Avenue in the Norwood Park area of Asheville.
