WICKWIRE fine art/folk art gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Tom Harvard

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art gallery ". . .where the heart finds art," in Hendersonville, NC, presents works by Tom Harvard from Nov. 1 - 30, 2004. On display are his one-of-a-kind turned wood and carved artistic creations seen at both WICKWIRE locations.

Says Harvard, "As with all my work, crisp lines, flowing curves and smooth transitions are intended features. All my adult life I have been working with wood - first as a farmer between 1971 to 1990 then, as an amateur furniture maker to being a homebuilder from 1986 to 1993. In 1997, I started turning wood."

In the summer of 1996, Harvard attended The Arrowmont School of Art and Craft in Gatlinburg, TN, studying under internationally known wood turners (Alan Stirt, John Hordan, Mike Lee, Todd Hoyer and Alan Lacer). He got his first lathe in Jan. of 1997 and since has been turning wood full time. Harvard is a member of the American Association of Wood Turners and The Palmetto Wood Turners of South Carolina. His work can be found in private collections, the fine art and fine craft shows of the American Craft Council in which he is a member and exhibitor, as well as, in fine galleries in South Carolina and such as WICKWIRE fine art/folk art ". . . the gallery," exclaims Tom, "where you will want to see my work in Hendersonville, NC."

While much of Harvard's one-of-a-kind creations could be considered functional, his intent is to produce artistic pieces that will be admired more than used. "So, if you use one of my bowls for salads, popcorn, nuts or candy, which would be very elegant," says Harvard, "they are food safe. I hope when you are done you will clean the wood carefully and display it prominently in your home. If you put it away and out of sight, you may as well use Tupperware."
