Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, Offers Annual Faculty Art Exhibition
Faculty
members of the Converse College Art and Design Department will
showcase their most recent works during the 34th Annual Art
and Design Faculty Exhibit, on view from Nov. 10 through Dec.
9, 2005, in the Milliken Art Gallery on the Converse campus. This
year's exhibit showcases works by Dianne Bagnal, Andrew Blanchard,
Mayo Mac Boggs, Merilyn Field, Frazer Pajak, Teresa Prater and
David Zacharias. Diverse media including printmaking, photography,
sculpture, painting, drawing and ceramics will be featured.
"I will be exhibiting pieces from two new bodies of work
that are photo-based," said Teresa Prater, professor of studio
art and chair of the Converse Art and Design Department. "The
first group of work is large scale figurative digital images that
have been created through multiple layers of my own photography
images in Photoshop. The second body of work consists of smaller
photographic images that use the Van Dyke photographic process.
Many of these images are created by a pinhole camera that I made.
One or two artist books will also be on display."
David Zacharias, associate professor of art
will exhibit five reduction-fired, stoneware pieces called Pickle
Jars that range from 18"
to 26" in height. "The series of jars have narrow bottoms
that arc upward in concave curved walls and blend into bulbous,
convex curved walls to their mouths. Subtle alterations in the
forms enhance the coming together of these opposite curves,"
he said.
