Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery
in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets
The exhibit Russian Favorites, the fourth annual showcasing of Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets' oil paintings at the Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will be on view from Nov. 4 - 26, 2005.
The richly spirited oil paintings by Russian
natives Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets have become coveted visual
documents of the Russian-American experience. Aleksander, immensely
talented at crafting the soulful nuances of Russian landscapes
thousands of miles from his homeland, approaches both his subject
matter and admirers of his work with palpable exuberance. His
wife Lyuba fashions her artistic hand to pungent kitchen still-lifes
and juxtapositions of florals with color harmonies inspired by
the abstract desert and industrial views out her El Paso studio
window. Critics and collectors alike praise her melding of the
everyday and the intricate, evident in her forward utilization
of cultural vibrancy and design-oriented compositions.
Both Aleksander and Lyuba acquired their academically focused
artistic education at St. Petersburg University College of Fine
Arts, Russia, with Aleksander gaining instructor status soon after
completing his courses. Looking beyond his traditional Russian
schooling, in beholding one of Aleksander's winter landscapes,
with its ever present layering of shadows and infused atmospheric
gradations, one immediately senses how his early childhood in
Siberia had a profound impact on his artistic identity. Those
intangible yet soulful communications taking place on the canvasí
surface epitomize the experiential forces playing an even greater
effect than academic guidance on Aleksander and Lyuba's artwork.
The exhibit will feature important figurative works by both of
the Titovets, never previously seen in public. In past national
oil painting competitions, Aleksander has submitted several portraits
featuring a haunting sense of spiritual self-realization. He truly
mines the character of his models, adding subtle biblical overtones
and hearkening to the ever-present conscience of the viewer. Particularly
in these spiritually charged works, viewers will be captivated
by what Aleksander Titovets describes as his "unceasing determination
to capture the graciousness of the soul."
Also as an integral part of Russian Favorites
will be Lyuba's spacious Russian village scenes, markedly unique
for the traditionally "iconographic" appearance of the
villagers. These snow-covered landscapes employ brilliant color
combinations, accentuating the vivacity of the Russian folk traditions
depicted therein.
The exhibition of Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets' newest figurative,
landscape, and spiritual creations has become a much-anticipated
visual event for Charleston residents and visitors alike. Taking
place during the weekend of the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association's
Fine Art Annual, visitors are able to meet the Titovets
in their sole southeastern exhibition opening of the year. Aleksander
and Lyuba will also generously give of their talents to benefit
the much under-funded Charleston County public high school art
programs. Painting alongside well-known southeastern artists,
the Titovets will each create a plein-air landscape of one of
Charleston's finest outdoor landmarks, which will be auctioned
to benefit the funding of local public school art programs.
The gallery makes every effort to keep as much
of the exhibit on view as possible throughout the length of the
show.
