Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Turns 20!
Gallery C, a Raleigh, NC, commercial fine art gallery has reached its 20-year milestone with no sign of slowing down. Demonstrating the very forward thinking that has kept them ahead of the pack for 20 years, Charlene Harless and her staff will celebrate the event online with a website photo contest (Where Were You in 1985?), a multimedia slide presentation (a "C"-cast) and a collection of letters commemorating the event (Greeting Cards from friends, fans and patrons). Visit (www.galleryc.net) to join the celebration and win a Gallery C Gift Certificate this fall!
In the topsyturvy art world galleries come and go almost as fast as restaurants and Raleigh is no exception. Survival depends on savvy business know-how coupled with a deep appreciation of good art and a healthy dose of taste and style. Such a winning combination is rare but Gallery C can certainly count itself amongst the winners. After twenty years in Raleigh the gallery has established itself as one of the preeminent places to purchase high quality fine art in the Southeast and continues to grow and develop with no sign of stopping.
Founded in 1985 by Charlene F. Harless, Gallery C began as a small but ambitious concern in the heart of Raleigh's Five-points historic district. As the gallery grew it moved first to the shopping mecca of Cameron Village and then to it's current location in the Ridgewood Shopping Center on Wade Avenue. Harless is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in Art History. She managed frame shops before starting Gallery C at age 25. Her full-time director Adam Cave joined the gallery in 1997. Also an Art History major, Cave began his gallery career in Santa Fe, NM.
With 3500 square feet and a breathtaking selection of over 30 regionally and nationally renowned artists, the current gallery is now a regular attraction for art lovers from all across the state when visiting the capital city. A large website (www.galleryc.net) is allowing Gallery C to reach far beyond North Carolina and bring wide, national exposure to their artists.
If you were a vintage animation art collector in the 1980's, you knew about Gallery C even if you lived in California. Today the gallery is becoming best known for historically important North Carolina and Southeastern artwork. These two directions seem, on the surface, miles apart but in fact both help account for the gallery's success. In each case Gallery C has recognized an important and under served area of the art market filled with rare beautiful artworks. Recognizing these opportunities while maintaining a steady stable of contemporary artists and, not losing one's identity in the process has been a challenging venture that has paid off. The gallery has, throughout it all, kept a commitment to strong personal customer service that accounts for a very loyal and ever growing number of patrons.
The future looks bright for Gallery C. With a full handle on the rapid advances in communication technology and a steady commitment to representing the very best of the visual arts, this Raleigh business is set to see another twenty years and beyond.
