November Issue 2005
Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC,
Features Works by Stephanie Shuler Hamlet, Kellie Jacobs, and
Melinda Lewin
Mom, Stephanie Hamlet and her daughters, Kellie Jacobs and Melinda
Lewin, are having their 2nd annual mother/daughters exhibition
titled, It's in the Genes. The three of them have enjoyed
painting side by side since the girls were children. The exhibit
opens on Nov. 11, at the Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston,
SC. The exhibit will continue through Nov 30, 2005.
Hamlet worked as a financial analyst for Roper and MUSC ,while refining her artistic skills. In 1996, she opened her first gallery, and in 2000 moved to Broad Street. Now a full-time artist, Hamlet continues to evolve, transitioning from mixed media to oils, combining texture and bold colors to communicate emotion and life experience. She finds it exhilarating that this "innate artistic talent" has spanned generations of her family, starting with her grandmother and continuing with her 5-year-old grandson. Hamlet is very pleased that her daughters, whose art styles and choice of media are as different as their personalities.
Kellie Jacobs' intuitive paintings in pastels
of Lowcountry marshes, creeks and ever-changing sky reveal a point
of view that is both fresh and familiar. She said, "We are
able to critique each others artwork and offer a fresh perspective
which enhances our paintings".
Melinda Lewin agrees and also adds, "Our relationship is
synergistic, not competitive". She creates vibrant oil paintings
which allows her to communicate her "moods and emotions."
Both daughters credit their mom with being their mentor and teacher. "Art unites our family".
