Mepkin Abbey Near Moncks Corner, SC, Features Works by Mary Eldredge

Mepkin Abbey located near Moncks Corner, SC, on the Cooper River will present the exhibit, Mother and Child, featuring sculptures by Mary Eldredge in the Little Gallery. The gallery located in the Mepkin Abbey Store/Visitors' Center will host the exhibit through Jan. 31. 2006.

Eldredge declares that in her series of copper sculptures "the simplicity of the 'mother and child' gestures tell the story and evoke the emotions of the subjects." Her series exploring both the religious and secular dimension of this relationship will be on exhibit.

Eldredge has an MFA degree in sculpture from Pius XII Institute/Rosary College, Florence, Italy and a BA in art history from Vassar College. She currently creates works in copper, stone and wood in her studio in Springfield, VT.

Eldredge has received major commissions from St. Margaret Mary Church, Albany, NY and the Church of the presentation, Stockton, CA. She brings her disciplined visions to the creation of artifacts ranging from processional candlesticks to organ frontals and from Stations of the Cross to sanctuary lampshades.

Patrons ranging from the Vatican to private individuals has collected Eldredge's sculptures. She participated in the 42nd National Interfaith Conference Exhibit of the Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture. A selected lists of her exhibitions include: Sixth Biennial National Religious Art Exhibition (Cranbrook Academy), Mostra dell'Arte Areligiosa per Pasqua (Florence, Italy), and Modern Art and Religious Experience (Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, NYC).

Eldredge's awards include the Academic Artists Association Award for Sculpture, the Miller Award for Sculpture (Manchester, VT) and the Therese Richard Memorial Prize for Religious Sculpture (National Arts Club, NYC).
