November Issue 2005
Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, Features Group Show of Animal Works
Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, is
celebrating autumn with Animals: Paintings and Sculpture.
The exhibition, on view through Nov. 25, 2005, includes work by
several of the gallery's artists including: Cynthia Tollefsrud,
Aggie Zed, Joe Bova, Mostapha Darehbaghi, Jeri Burdick, Diane
Gilbert, Mana Hewitt, Janet Kozachek, and Susie Miller Simon.
Cynthia Tollefsrud's vividly colored paintings often feature ironic
text and double meanings. These popular works are both playful
and thought provoking. Aggie Zed's sculptures and drawings of
animals and animal-human hybrids have a mystic quality, encouraging
the viewer to consider multiple interpretations of the work. In
contrast to the fantastic forms that Zed often creates, Joe Bova's
ceramics feature a wide range of animal images that are true to
their models.
The exhibition includes work by an artist whose work is new to
Nina Liu and Friends. Atlanta, GA, based Mostapha Darehbaghi
creates graphic paintings of animals that demonstrate his command
of line, shape and color. Other artists whose work appears in
the exhibition are Jeri Burdick, Diane Gilbert, Mana Hewitt, Janet
Kozachek, and Susie Miller Simon.
