Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by William Jameson

Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, proudly presents the exhibit, Native Land, featuring realistic landscapes of Carolina artist, William Jameson. The exhibition opens Nov. 4, in the gallery's new space on Selwyn Avenue, and continues through Nov. 30, 2005.

Jameson grew up surrounded by the natural beauty and rich history of South Carolina. His deep personal connection with his surroundings inspired Jameson with hopes of becoming an artist. After studying under Frank Rampola at the Ringling School of Art in Florida, Jameson continued his studies while teaching landscape painting and life drawing as a graduate assistant at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

His new exhibition of Carolina landscapes, Native Land, is a continuation of years of exploration of the ever-changing local landscape and coastal views including such popular series as: Highland Creek, Piedmont Cascades and Carolina Road. Throughout his career, Jameson has rejected the term "scene" in reference to his work which he defines as "explorations". Combining knowledge and respect for natural law, life cycles and a love of history with a keen awareness of the close relationship between nature and man, Jameson uses his brush and canvas to create a visual interpretation of land, sea and horizon.

Jameson's approach to nature results in compositions that go beyond merely depicting the surface beauty offered by the environs; by exploring his subject matter in detail, Jameson reveals the mystery and power of nature in each unique setting. The effect is a literal and sentimental interpretation of nature, emphasizing its sheer power. Each painting is a reflection of the dual-relationships between man and nature; painter and observer.

The recipient of numerous awards and honors in the United States and abroad, his paintings can be found in many public and private collections, including: Gibbes Museum of Art, Wofford College, The College of Charleston, Carolina First Bank, Cryovac Corporation, The Duke Mansion, Charlotte, NC, The Art Bank, The US Department of State and The US Department of the Navy.
