Upstate Visual Arts in Greenville, SC, Offers Exhibit in New Space
The Upstate Visual Arts Gallery at 701 Pendleton St. in Greenville, SC, is proud to continue the exhibit, Rebirth, which showcases new work from some of the area's finest artists, through Nov. 15, 2005.
"Rebirth" is an apropos theme for the UVA Gallery as Upstate Visual Arts enters a new era, having moved to its new home at 701 Pendleton St. in Aug., 2005. Since then, the organization has renovated the charming old building to suit its needs as a gallery and school facility.
Inherent in the idea of "Rebirth" is a sense of moving to a new stage of life. "Artists work in stages. And the idea is for each stage to be better and fresher than the last," said Alison Gray, who serves as Director of Administration for Upstate Visual Arts. Gray continued, "Many of the artists in this exhibit have recently entered a new stage in their creative journey, and their pieces convey a certain crispness, like apples fresh off the tree."
The artists included in this exhibit are Jane Doyle, Henry Fagen, Jr., Rebecca Jonas, Kathy Justice, Sharon Linnehan, Cham Little, Doug Lockard, Glen Miller, Jason Moody, Gisela Smith, Patricia Stalb, Carole Tinsley, and Grey Thompson. Each of these artists is a member of Upstate Visual Arts, Greenville's largest non-profit organization dedicated solely to the visual arts. Most of the works on display are for sale.
The Upstate Visual Arts Gallery serves to further the mission of Upstate Visual Arts: to elevate the stature of visual art and educate the public to its significance. Other UVA exhibits include the Commerce Club exhibits, the exhibits at the Greenville/Spartanburg International Airport, and the exhibit at the Registry of Deeds in County Square.
