Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Family Exhibition
Mom, Stephanie Hamlet and her daughters, Kellie Jacobs and Melinda Lewin, paint together and are having an exhibition together. The three of them have been enjoying painting side by side since the girls were children. Their 3rd annual exhibit, Family Ties, will be on view from Nov. 3 - 30, 2006, at the Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC.
Stephanie Shuler Hamlet
Hamlet worked as a financial analyst for Roper and MUSC, while refining her artistic skills. In 1996 Hamlet opened her first gallery, and in 2000 moved to Broad Street. Now a full-time artist, she continues to evolve, transitioning from mixed media to oils, combining texture and bold colors to communicate emotion and life experience.
Hamlet said she finds it exhilarating that this "innate artistic talent" has spanned generations of her family, starting with her grandmother and continuing with her 5-year-old grandson.
Kellie Jacobs
Hamlet is very pleased that her daughters have art styles and choices of media that are as different as their personalities. Kellie Jacobs' intuitive paintings in pastels of low country marshes, creeks and ever-changing sky reveal a point of view that is both fresh and familiar. Jacobs said, "We are able to critique each others artwork and offer a fresh perspective which enhances our paintings."
Melinda Lewin
Melinda Lewin agrees and also adds, "that our relationship is synergistic, not competitive." Lewin creates vibrant oil paintings which allows her to communicate her "moods and emotions". Both daughters credit their mom with being their mentor and teacher. "Art unites our family".
