9th Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale Takes Place in Asheville, NC
The 9th Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale will be held on Nov. 18 from 10am-5pm and Nov. 19, 2006, from noon-5pm at the home and studio of Susan Voorhees, 55 Woodward Avenue in Asheville, NC. This weekend show and sale is free and open to the public.
A collection of paintings and artwork by Voorhees family members will be on exhibit and for sale at this unusual event. Meet this extraordinary family of artists known throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.
The arts legacy began with Edwin Voorhees, known for his watercolor seascapes, and is continuing through his wife, Mildred, their children and grandchildren. Mildred, now the matriarch of this artistic family paints colorful, patterned watercolors which have gained recognition via awards and publications. She will also be displaying her rich oil and still lifes and landscapes.
Three of Mildred's six children will be showing their work at this event. Susan, an occupational therapist, works in oils and pastels. Jane, a member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society, works in watercolor and oils. She has a successful line of cards featuring her watercolor images. David, a professional potter since 1974, makes hand-painted porcelain and raku pottery. David's wife, Molly Sharp Voorhees, fabricates contemporary jewelry using sterling silver and gold. David and Molly own Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, where they represent the family's artwork. They are both members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild in Asheville.
Extended family members Chad Alice Hagen with her hand-felted art pieces and felted hats and scarves and Donna Wahmann with her pyrographic artwork and carved, native wood hooks and handles will also be exhibiting along with several other family members.
