Arts Council of Lincoln County in Lincolnton, NC, Features Works by Karen Banker

The Arts Council of Lincoln County in Lincolnton, NC, will present the exhibit, Vibrant Silence, featuring works by Karen Banker, in the Carolina Mills and Cochrane Galleries at the Lincoln Cultural Center, on view from Nov. 1 - 30, 2007.

Using acrylics and mixed media, Banker's large abstract works evoke strong emotional connections and responses through her use of vivid color and paint layering. Inspired by human emotions that flow freely through our bodies, Banker works to capture those moments of intense feeling in her work. "Mesmerized" is a word often used to describe her art.

Born in Wisconsin and raised in rural Ohio, Banker was born into a family of artists and medicine. Recently moving near Lincolnton, from Miami, FL, she finds meaning in sharing elements of the human experience in her work by depicting the words and thoughts that cannot be easily expressed. As an award-winning artist, Banker's spiritual guides include Mark Rothko, William DeKooning and comtemporary artist, Herb Jackson.

Banker's work has been exhibited in multiple galleries, including the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art, and collected throughout the United States.
