Art Affair in Winston-Salem, NC, Offers Works by Kay Hutchison
Art Affair will present new paintings by Kay Hutchison, at Diamondback Grill in Winston-Salem, NC, beginning Nov. 1, and continuing through Feb. 1, 2008.
A Raleigh, NC, native, Kay Hutchison is an established muralist and commercial illustrator. Hutchison attended Rhode Island School of Design, earning a fine arts degree in illustration, graduating with honors. Afterward, she continued her studies with the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.
To date, Hutchison has several exhibitions and installations to her credit. Commissions of note include a series of posters for the Raleigh Arts Council and a twenty foot long mural for the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Hutchison is now focusing on fine arts painting and the compositions presented by Art Affair will be oil on canvas originals. The images featured will focus on the artist's travels through Europe this past summer. Her journey took her through several countries including: France, England, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia and Finland. This exhibition offers a wide array in subject matter, from a quiet pastoral setting of a Swedish village to a busy night café on the streets of Paris.
In painting this series, the artist has made the deliberate choice to use soft lines and meld colors together loosely. Hutchison employs this approach as a means of evoking, "the ephemeral nature of memories". By keeping her compositions loose, she reminds the observer of how fleeting time and memories can be and evokes a sense of nostalgia.
