Blue Heron Glass in Charleston Offers Works by Local Glass Fusers
Blue Heron Glass in Charleston, SC, will be featuring works by local fusing artists Mike Hiester, Greg Rawls, and Tricia Boyd-Crum, on view from Nov. 6 - 30, 2007, corresponding with the gallery's grand opening at their new location in the Northbridge Shopping Center.
Mike Hiester, owner of Blue Heron Glass, has been experimenting with fusing techniques since 1994 and has been a stained glass artist and instructor for over 20 years. "I prefer working with the themes and colors of the Lowcountry," Hiester says. He uses his knowledge as a former biologist to create both beautiful and accurate pieces. This is evident in his fused bowls and platters where shrimp, crabs, and fish are plentiful.
Greg Rawls, who is an instructor at Blue Heron Glass, has been a prolific stained glass artist for over 15 years, and transitioned into fused glass in 1998. His work is part of the Bullseye Glass Corporate Collection, the South Carolina Artisan Center, was displayed in the 2003 Charleston Designer Showhouse and won 2nd place in the 2005 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition in Charleston. Two recent awards include being chosen as the poster artist for the 2006 Piccolo Spoleto Petite Performance Pavillion and 1st place in the 2006 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition for his piece, View from My Balcony in Alicante.
Tricia Boyd-Crum, also an instructor at Blue Heron Glass and former owner of Tricia Studios, has been a glass artist for over 15 years. She specializes in small hanging pieces with a variety of themes. She is currently president of the Charleston Crafts Cooperative and exhibits regularly at their gallery and also participates in craft shows throughout the southeast.
