Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, Offers Works by David Zacharias
The Milliken Art Gallery at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, will host the exhibit, Notes from Underground (The Basement Projects): Recent Works by David Zacharias, on view from Nov. 8 through Dec. 6, 2007.
Zacharias, associate professor of art at Converse, took a sabbatical for the spring semester of 2007 during which he created a whole new collection of unique ceramic vessels. All of the pieces produced are lidded jars ranging from 14" to 47" in height. These new pieces were actually created in the basement of the Milliken Fine Arts building on campus.
Zacharias has amassed an impressive solo and group exhibition record since completing a MFA degree in ceramics and sculpture from the University of South Carolina. He devotes his creative time to producing unique ceramic vessels that focus on the interaction of basic forms and subtle alterations within. Zacharias has taught all levels of ceramics at Converse, and in 2001, he was the first ever recipient of the college's O'Herron Faculty Excellence Award.
While maintaining his art production and exhibition record, Zacharias has participated in professional level workshops led by Robert Turner, William Daley, Don Reitz and Ron Meyers, and has conducted workshops at the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM, Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, and at the University of South Carolina-Columbia.
