Fish or Cut Bait Gallery on Edisto Island, SC, Features Works by Mac Rogers, Kit Shelor Coker & Cindy Saad
Fish or Cut Bait Gallery on Edisto Island, SC, will be kicking off the holiday season with a new exhibit entitled, Joy to the World. The exhibit, featuring works by Mac Rogers, Kit Shelor Coker, and Cindy Saad, will open on Nov. 3 and continue through Dec. 30, 2007.
The featured artists include two painters whose works are particularly evocative of South Carolina's Lowcountry. Kit Shelor Coker is originally from Sumter, SC, but now resides with her husband in Mt. Pleasant, SC. She studied art at the University of Colorado in Boulder and continued her studies with a number of accomplished artists. Coker also has participated in workshops in Italy, Greece, Mexico, Colorado and South Carolina.
Coker's work is featured in several galleries and is collected by individuals and corporations across the country. She works primarily in oils, and her subjects include still lifes, dogs and landscapes, especially scenes from the Lowcountry, and has been a juried artist at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
Mac Rogers
Mac Rogers has lived part-time in the Lowcountry since 1989 and moved to Beaufort, SC, in 2003, so his work is also reflective of his surroundings. He has spent many summers on Edisto Island and particularly enjoys the culture and history of the island.
"These two artists are wonderful examples of the joy that can be found in the simplest of things," said Brailsford Foster, gallery owner. "We are so blessed in this part of South Carolina to be surrounded by such magnificent vistas, and we sometimes take the natural beauty of the Lowcountry for granted. The works of both Coker and Rogers serve as reminders of just how fortunate we are.
"We get visitors who come here and want to take a piece of Edisto home with them," added Foster. "These two artists provide wonderful examples of the joy Edisto brings to all of us."
The new show will also feature jewelry by Cindy Saad, as well as some of her paintings. Saad says she enjoys the freedom of creating art in various mediums and that she lets color and movement guide her as she works. Saad has been in numerous juried exhibitions, including those at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and the American Craft Council.
