Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Bert Beirne
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, is presenting an exhibit entitled, Classical Still Life Paintings, on view through Nov. 10, 2007.
Imagine the reincarnation of those elegant fruits and vegetables painted by famous masters four hundred years ago. Bert Beirne has accomplished this rare feat. Her vivid, perfectly formed subjects, whether produce, embroidered linens, or antique china, suggest to the viewer that they were lifted right out of a work at the Louvre.
The exacting clarity of the things included in Beirne's work is reminiscent of those Flemish rooms and tabletops by artists such as Kalf and Heda that have captured art lovers awe for all these years. It is both a pleasure and a surprise to find a contemporary artist using similar deep paint colors, depth of perspective and unseen natural light sources. The artwork demonstrates a fresh interpretation of the classical traditions in still life painting.
Finishes that appear both translucent and lacquered, forms delicate yet strong, colors that appear natural and antiqued simultaneously characterize Beirne's canvases. Many are small examples of a single subject, others are composed of items that might appear in a family scrapbook, all captured in Beirne's rare moods mixed with a hint of mystery.
Beirne's personal history began as a Cincinnati, OH, native, receiving her BFA at the University of Cincinnati. The artist now lives in Georgia and has won numerous regional and national awards for these time consuming works. Beirne's paintings are included in private and corporate collections in England, Germany and Japan, as well as throughout the United States and Canada.
