Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, Features Works by Flor Garduño
Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, is presenting the exhibit, FLOR, featuring an exhibit of works by noted Mexican photographer Flor Garduño, in the Guilford College Art Gallery, located in Hege Library on the Guilford campus, on view through Dec. 9, 2007. The exhibit includes a collection of 32 silver and platinum/palladium prints of still-life and nude portraits.
Garduño was born in Mexico City in 1957. Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, the J.P. Getty Museum of Los Angeles and Stiftung fur Fotografie di Zurigo. She has received several grants, most notably the Swiss Federal Grant for Applied Arts as well as the support for creators of art provided by the National Foundation for Culture and the Arts of Mexico.
Her published collections include, Magic of the Eternal Game (1985), Bestiarium (1987), Witnesses of Time (1992, reissued 2000), FLOR / INNER LIGHT (2002) and her latest work, SILENT NATURES, published in 2005 by Gabriele Editore, Mendrisio (Switzerland).
The Art Department at Guilford College will hold two lectures during the exhibit's run. On Nov. 5 at 7:30pm, Kathryn Shields will discuss masking in contemporary photography. Shields is an associate professor of art at Guilford. Dennis Kiel, the curator of The Light Factory in Charlotte, NC, will lecture on Dec. 6 at 7:30pm (topic TBD).
